Preschool (Ages 2-5)

The Temple Shalom Preschool (TSPS) welcomes families of all faiths and backgrounds with children ages 2 through 5. We are proud that our community is enriched by the diversity of our students, families and staff. TSPS is in session from September through May, with classes each morning from 9:15 a.m. through 12:15 p.m.   The Jewish element of our program celebrates Jewish holidays and introduction to Jewish objects, food, music, developmentally appropriate Hebrew, Jewish culture and the weekly celebration of the Jewish Sabbath, Shabbat. Shabbat is celebrated each Friday morning as the children make challah (braided bread loaves), gather together to say the Shabbat prayers, enjoy special Shabbat snack and sing Shabbat songs. Learning about Jewish culture is encouraged through art projects, stories, and songs. We emphasize universal human values of compassion, gratitude, respect, forgiveness, honesty and helpfulness.  Special celebrations are held for holidays such as Thanksgiving, Chanukkah, Purim, Passover, and Mother’s/Father’s Day. Each day at the preschool, the children enjoy a healthy snack, art, literature, free play time, and (weather permitting) outdoor time on the playground!

TSPS offers a warm and respectful social, play-based environment guided by emotionally responsive practices, modelling of positive interaction and valuing the individuality of each child. The classroom is a safe, supportive environment and will challenge each student to reach his or her potential. Classroom activities are process oriented, focusing on intentionality while creatively inspiring the learning process and experience for each child. Our students work in groups, small teams and as individuals with their teachers. At TSPS we challenge our students to engage creatively, while exploring their spirit of inquiry. Viewing the teacher and child as co-learners, our staff uses knowledge of emotional, social, cognitive and physical development to enhance the progress and success of each child as s/he uncovers the magic of learning about the world in which we live.
