In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, all Temple Shalom in-person education programming is temporarily suspended and being conducted with modifications remotely via secure Zoom sessions.

Adult Education: Sunday Zoom learning sessions are facilitated by Rabbi Jay Sherwood. Courses that explore in-depth content and subject matter are facilitated on Zoom by Kobi Chumash and are typically offered on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings.

Adult Education

Temple Shalom encourages and invites participation with life-long learning experiences. We offer a range of adult education opportunities for congregants and non-members that utilize internally developed curriculum, as well as courses from reputable Jewish educators and national institutions. Program schedules are published in anticipation of classes being offered for fall/winter and winter/spring learning sessions. Classes are offered on the basis of instructor availability, conversion education expectations, response to contemporary issues and general interest expressed by congregants. Examples of the adult programs frequently offered include:

  • Crash Course in Hebrew
  • Crash Course in Jewish History
  • Siddur “GPS” (Navigating the Shabbat morning service)
  • "They Never Taught Me That in Hebrew School!"
  • Introduction to Judaism
  • Introduction to Kabbalah
  • “The Anti-Semitism Equation”
  • Ethics courses
  • Examining Contemporary Social Issues Through a Jewish Lens
  • Jewish Theological Seminary Education Curriculum Courses
  • Torah Study - Tuesday mornings - 9:30 am.  The study is progressive, ongoing and extensive, but is not specific for the Torah Portion of each week. Open to Members of Temple Shalom, only.
  • Other programs announced throughout the year (join our weekly mailing list to be informed)

Member and non-member pricing is available for all educational classes.

Have an Educational Program Idea?

Congregants frequently suggest topics of special interest. In fact, past adult education programs such as, "Why Do We Say Things In The Liturgy That We Don't Mean?" and Empowering the Family: Confronting Anti-Semitism came to us through a suggestion from a Temple member.
