Shalom/Salaam Klezmer Concert

Colorado College in collaboration with Temple Shalom and Temple Beit Torah is pleased to present SHALOM/SALAAM: A CELEBRATION OF JEWISH AND ARABIC MUSIC at Shove Chapel on Saturday March 2 at 7:00 pm.  The concert unites klezmer fusion band Hal Aqua and The Lost Tribe with Middle Eastern ensemble Zuruna for a passionate concert of multicultural diversity. You can expect to hear soulful Arabic groove music, raucous klezmer tunes, and collaborative jamming that meets in the middle. Both bands feel strongly that in these times of divisiveness and fear of the "other," it's especially important for musicians to find common ground in songs of peace, love, and coexistence.

HAL AQUA AND THE LOST TRIBE play klezmer fusion —an exuberant musical experience, rooted firmly in traditional Jewish modes and melodies and driven by contemporary rhythms and danceable grooves. The versatile musicians who make up The Lost Tribe have a deep respect for their source material, from the evocative tunes of Eastern European Jews and Gypsies to the sinuous rhythms of the Middle East and Mediterranean. The Lost Tribe steeps their songs in a broth spiced with rock, reggae, salsa, funk and blues influences, serving up an irresistible party vibe. The band includes: Hal Aqua (vocals, guitars, octave mandolin), Annie Aqua (violin, vocals), Ben Cohen (bass, tuba, vocals), Miriam Rosenblum (clarinet), and Shanti Hazan (percussion). Middle Eastern ensemble ZURUNA fosters the sensuous rhythms and sounds of music from North Africa, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Turkey, Israel and Palestine. Vocalist Catrene Malshy, an Arab Israeli from Haifa, is dedicated to promoting songs of peace, love, and healing. The ensemble includes Annie Aqua (violin), Pete Jacobs (oud), James Messerich (percussion), and Theo Anbacher-Hunt (percussion). Band info: https://www.facebook.com/Zuruna/
