Temple Shalom Membership FAQs

How much are membership dues?
Temple Shalom’s Standard annual dues are $1500 / year which includes family tickets to all High Holy Day services, eligibility to enroll children in our Religious School, reduced fees for Preschool tuition, tutoring for B’nai Mitzvah, receipt of the monthly bulletin, and many other benefits.  Other membership levels are available. It has always been Temple Shalom’s policy to offer membership to those who have financial constraints. Anyone not able to meet the annual dues commitment may contact the Temple office which will put the interested party in touch with the Temple’s Financial Secretary to discuss dues arrangements. All such arrangements will be confidential. Please contact the Temple office if you have questions in regard to dues or membership at Temple Shalom so we may speak with you personally. (Download the membership application or dues form.)

Can I come to Temple Shalom services and programs if I’m not a member?
Shabbat Services at Temple Shalom are open to all Jews and visitors, as are most of our programs and events. If you are not a member of Temple Shalom, special tickets are required for admission to High Holy Day Services. Membership is also a requirement in order to send your children to Religious School Classes. We welcome visitors and hope you will consider coming to our services and programs any time!

How large is Temple Shalom? Temple Shalom has approximately 250 families. Our Religious School has an enrollment of approximately 125 students and our Preschool enrollment averages 40 children in any given school year. We have a vibrant Sisterhood, an active Men’s Club, a lively Senior Program and many Adult Education programs and special events throughout the year.

Why does Temple Shalom have an affiliation with both the Reform and Conservative movements? The congregation of Temple Shalom was formed through the merger of Temple Beth El (reform) and B’nai Israel (conservative) in 1972. As a merged community, we feel we are better able to serve the religious needs of a wide spectrum of the Jewish population in Colorado Springs while offering a variety of programs and services to our congregation and the community.

What size is the Jewish community in Colorado Springs? A study of the Jewish population in Colorado Springs has not been conducted by any national Jewish agencies. However, according to a 2002 study done by the American Jewish Committee, there are approximately 73,000 Jews in the state of Colorado. Of that number, approximately 70,000 live in the Denver/Boulder metro area. Colorado Springs is a fast growing medium-sized city with approximately 361,000 residents, so we estimate that there are several thousand Jewish families in the Colorado Springs area.
