Temple Shalom was founded in 1972 with the coming together of a Reform synagogue and a Conservative synagogue. We maintain the legacy of this tradition to this day, with dual affiliation with the Union for Reform Judaism and the United Synagogue of Conservative Judiasm. We are a shul of about 250 families, and we are growing in numbers and in stature. We have a fantastic Men's Club (e-mail Men's Club), a vibrant Sisterhood (email Sisterhood), a Seniors Program that is easily as active as any Youth Group, and a Young Professionals group that is robust and always on the go. We even have a Biking chavura, if you'd care to combine love of Judaism with a bit of physical exertion at over 6,000 feet of elevation!
In Colorado Springs, we have a wonderful Hadassah Chapter that is growing by leaps and bounds. Through Temple Shalom, we enjoy the benefits of a Kosher Coop, for those of us that observe kashrut. We also are witness to the birth of an ADL Chapter, right here in Colorado Springs. Things are moving, and we are not sitting still while our collective sense of Yiddishkeit takes shape and form.
This year, Temple Shalom will be undergoing some pretty incredible renovations as well. Our entire Religious and Pre School, from classrooms to common areas for study and socializing will receive a full renovation. Our sanctuary and social hall are in the midst of a dramatic facelift, with everything from new seating to new carpet to new paint. We are planning bathroom renovations, and significant work to our two kitchens. The building is being prepared for the next phase of its considerable history. We ring in the new, while holding firm to our unique history in Colorado Springs.
We invite you to learn more about Temple Shalom by 'surfing' our website. Have a look about the place. Contact us with questions or comments or ideas. Get involved if you're able--the wonder of the Internet is that you needn't live down the street to do so. You can engage from the comfort of your own home or office. And as you can, come daven with us. Join us on Fridays or Saturdays, or both. Join us through our many activities and programs. Join us as a member or give us a look when 'Shul Shopping.' Whatever your level of comfort, we want you to know that you have a place for you to call your Jewish home in Colorado Springs. On behalf of Rabbi Glazer, the Board of Directors, and the staff, welcome to Temple Shalom.
B'Shalom,
David A. Ervin
