President's Message

Temple Shalom welcomes you to the Pikes Peak region. A very special welcome to current Temple Shalom members visiting the web site.

If you are new to the area and looking for a connection to Judaism in the Rockies, you will find it at Temple Shalom. We have a diverse membership and a wide variety of programs. We pride ourselves in being all inclusive. For nearly forty years, the membership of Temple Shalom has embraced the rich traditions of our founding congregations; the reform congregation Beth El and the conservative congregation B'nai Israel. We conduct Friday evening Shabbat services using the reform Mishkan T'filah prayer book and for Sabbath morning services, we use the conservative prayer book Sim Shalom. We invite you to experience and enjoy the variety of services we have to offer.

Our synagogue is supported by an active Sisterhood and Men's Club. The Sisterhood hosts monthly meetings, with lunch or dinner, and discusses many topics and book reviews. The Sisterhood operates the Temple gift shop. Please visit this wonderful Jewish emporium and purchase items to enhance holidays and Shabbat. Each February, the Sisterhood prepares the city wide corned beef lunch extravaganza. The Men's Club host monthly breakfast meetings featuring speakers on Jewish and secular topics. After a brief service and bagel and lox breakfast, our Men's Club and congregational members are treated to most informative lectures.

At the core of the Temple are our weekly programs. Talmud and Torah study are a big hit with the membership. We deliver classes in Hebrew language and history. You can explore Judaism with Rabbi Glazer. Our senior population, from within the congregation and the greater community meet twice weekly for lunch and lecture. In the spring, we take on T'kun Olam with our community service day, working with less fortunate people, helping with municipal projects and donating blood.

Education is the corner stone of Temple Shalom. The Temple Preschool program enrolls children two-five years of age. Kindergarten through second graders attend Sunday classes and beginning in third grade, we add Tuesday afternoons and teach curriculumin Hebrew, history, holidays and prayer. The religious education prepares our students for Bat and Bar Mitzvah. Rabbi Glazer teaches post B'nai Mitzvah classes on more advanced and contemporary Jewish topics. Our teenage youth group organizes many events and participates in Colorado's Front Range and national events. There is a very active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and governing educational committee that works with our Educational Director to ensure our educational programs are unsurpassed.

Please visit the rest of the web site and when you have a chance, visit the Temple. We want you to know that Temple Shalom is the place for you to call your Jewish home in Colorado Springs. On behalf of Rabbi Glazer, the Board of Directors, and the staff, welcome to Temple Shalom. We would love to meet you. Give us a call at 719-634-5311 or write me an email.

Sincerely,

Michael B Freeman, President
